The folks who run the Pure Michigan travel campiagn could have used today’s Michigander route and weather to sell the state. It was that stunning.
We began the day in mist in Gaylord that soon gave way to beautiful blue skies, puffy white clouds, no headwind and knock-your-socks off wooded and rolling terrain that took us some 40 miles to Bellaire.
Just a half hoiur or so outside of Gaylord, everyone stopped to take their pictures as we crossed the 45th Parallel, half way between the North Pole and the Equator. Fiorther on, it was roodlands, a few scattered farms and nothing else, except for the tiny hamlet of Alba.
It was the kind of day and ride that made you glad to be alive and in Michigan.
Most of the route actually seemed downhill, that’s how sweet the ride was, though a couple big hills towards the end gave us a hint of what awaits us tomorrow when we turn north and ride to Harbor Springs.
