They say a picture is worth a thousand words. Here’s ten thousand words – my shattered iPhone 4, the result of a GoRide bicycle mount I bought the other day that was supposed to keep my phone safe and secure on my handlebars.
The picture shows what happened. One mile into a 64 mile ride yesterday, I rode over some railroad tracks and the phone popped right out of the mount and hit the pavement.
Nice. The mount cost $29 and I got it from an outfit called Bicio. It consists of a base mount that cable ties to the handlebars. A case fits around the iPhone and twists and locks itself into the mount. I checked it carefully at the start of the ride. It was clicked into the locking mechanism and seemed pretty secure.
The railroad tracks were not that jarring. But apparently enough to pop the phone, case and all, from the mount.
It cost me $199 to replace the iPhone…. which was just two weeks old.
