New Year’s Weight Loss Resolutions
December 7, 2009 by Mike
It’s that time again.
Lots of holiday parties and dinners mean lots of eating. The holidays are synonymous with food – cookies, pastries, snacks, yummy desserts and all chased down by lots of egg nog. If you socialize this holiday season, you’re going to be exposed to lots of calorie-ladden goodies.
You know the pounds will inevitably come on and, come January 1 and the New Year, you’ll be vowing to make a new start by losing weight and getting healthy.
It gets harder every year. Everyone can use some help.
There are lots of diets, supplements and exercise plans floating around. One area a lot of people look into is the use of ephedrine HCL.
When used as directed, ephedrine HCL can be a significant part of your overall program to reduce your body fat. Check it out.

Oilless turkey fryer
November 16, 2009 by Mike
Do you cook for your whole family during the holidays? Do you like to throw holiday parties? Do you just like to cook? Are you remodeling your kitchen?
We’ve found a great product from the folks at the Wine of the month club – especially as we think about Thanksgiving and Christmas dinners.
It’s a Oilless turkey fryer and it turkey cooker that uses infrared technology to cook an entire turkey without using any oil, resulting in a safer, healthier alternative with the same gourmet flavor and texture. It uses propane to fuel a propane-fueled, 18,000-BTU burner in the base that transfers heat to the cooking chamber.
From there, the stainless-steel inner walls distribute heat evenly, ensuring foods are thoroughly cooked. A drop-in basket holds a turkey, whole chicken, or a pork shoulder, and the unit turns on at the touch of a button.
Here’s what is really nifty: It’s a huge time-saver. It does not require any preheating and it automatically cooks at the correct temperature for optimal results, eliminating the need to constantly monitor and adjust the cooking temperature as with traditional methods.
How fast is it? It cooks a 12-lb. bird in one hour and fifty minutes–half the time required with an oven–and the removable drip pan catches juices and fond for making homemade gravy.
Hmmmm. I’m starting to drool just thinking about it.
Wireless camera systems
November 13, 2009 by Mike
Everybody can use a wireless camera. Once thought to be the domain of business and corporate security types, a wireless camera is the perfect device to install and use around the home. They are very easy to set up, a snap for the do-it-yourselfer.
There are indoor and outdoor cameras, single camera systems or multi-camera setups, all delivering very crisp and clear signals in color or black and white.
Not long ago, I set one up in the living room, where my dog, Elkie, would jump up on the couch. It was a strict no-no and she never did it when we were around. Try as we might, we never could catch her doing it, just the telltale mess of dog hair that covered the sofa cushions. Whenever we’d make our way into the living room, she’d quickly jump down at the approaching footprints and look innocent as can be, streched out on the floor. On a lark not long after getting my system, I set a camera up and focused it on the sofa one day. I kept the live image up in a window on my computer as I worked in my home office at the other end of the house.
Sure enough, when Elkie thought no one was looking up she jumped. She was just settling in for a nap when I shouted out her names and a form “No!” You should have seen her fly off the couch. It was hilarious. A couple hours later, the whole scene repeated. That was all it took. She was cured of the couch napping.
I’ve also used a wireless camera to focus on the front door so, when the doorbell rings and we’re in another room, we need to check just our computer screen.
While on vacation last winter, I monitored the snow piling up in my Michigan lawn while I was in Florida, accessing the camera by the Internet.
Today’s cameras have a range of nearly a half a mile. Some are infrared or have night vision. Prices start at under $100 for some models.
